#Lsi megaraid storage manager for m5015 update#
According to IBM's page for 23.16-0027, this update fixes: Should I trust it?Īt this point the only reason why Im "interested" in flashing this card is to fix some refresh issues for the BBU and other stats that are currently not working with megacli. The only problem is that it was on a random FTP. I managed to find the latest FW (23.33.0-0018) from IBM for that controller using the filename of the FW (ibm_fw_sraidmr_5016-23.33.0-0018_linux_32-64.bin) and cross referenced to LSI's latest FW which is 23.33.0-0023. Otherwise this seller will get my first VERY BAD review in 17 years of ebay experience.ĮDIT: I got some info on the RAID controller, it is NOT a M5015 but a M5016 (if that matters). Go see the ad, you cant tell its not a real Hitachi drive. The other buyers (because this seller had many of them to sell) are only private listings. The ad picture is a generic picture from Hitachi, and nowhere the ad mentioned netapp or a third vendor. The ad did mention "No returns accepted". Regarding returning the drives, I should have known better. I really dont understand why flashing a Hitachi firnware onto these drives to replace the netapp FW wouldnt' work? After all, are not all of these drives physically identical except their firmware? After all the netapp FW must somehow only be a modified Hitachi FW? Do you think it would be worthwhile to flash the card or the drives? I could also contact LSI to ask for compatibility. The RAID controller is (AFAIK) running original firmware. I did not notice the NETAPP tag in the megacli's output before you mentioned it but now it all makes sense. You are right, by doing a google search, firmware NA01 shows NETAPP drives only. The ebay add is available at Hitachi Ultrastar 15K600 HUS156030VLS600 300 GB Internal 15000 RPM 3 5" | eBay Why are the 2 used drives not supported? AFAIK they're (except in finer details) are the same as the 2 existing drives that are just working fine!

You will be able to monitor the array from any Windows computer in your network.Recently added a pair of used 15k600 (Hitachi's) on a ServeRAID M5016 and I was surprised to see that the drives were identified by the Web BIOS as "unsupported".

Once you have followed these steps you will have full control over your IBM ServeRAID using LSI Mega Raid Controller on a VMware ESXi 5.1 operating system. Note: IBM released retain tip H21152 but the steps currently does not work with ESXi 5.1 Login using the VMware server login details. Perform a basic install, no password is needed during the install. Setup an A record to point your VMware hostname to it's IP address. Step 7: Add the VMware hostname to your DNS server. The download is on the same URL from step 2 or you can also download this from IBM.

esxcli software vib install -v /tmp/LSI_bootbank_lsiprovider_500.04.V0.38-0006.vib -no-sig-check Step 3: Extract the LSI download and upload the VIB file to /tmp Step 1: Download the latest LSI SMIS for VMwareįrom the VMware host console press F2 then go into troubleshooting. Please note this guide should work the same for any non IBM server that is running VMware ESXi 5.1 and a LSI Mega Raid Controller. Following these steps below will get the LSI Mega Raid Manager running on an IBM ServeRAID adapter. IBM has a retain tip with installation instructions but that tip is outdated. Currently configuring the LSI Mega Raid Storage Manager on VMware ESXi 5.1 is not very well documented by IBM. IBM has always provided a way for you to manage your array in Windows, Linux, Unix and many other operating systems. The LSI Mega Raid Storage Manager is a program where you can monitor the health of your array, setup drives and change notification details.
